Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@kelskapers.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Kel’s Kapers is a home-based Family Day Care that provides a nurturing, play-based learning environment for children. I focus on fostering curiosity, independence, and meaningful learning experiences aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework.

I provide care for children from birth to 12years old, ensuring experiences are tailored to their developmental stages.

Kel’s Kapers operates from Monday to Thursday, 6: 00 AM – 6:00 PM.

I am based in Jimboomba, QLD. Exact location details will be provided upon enrolment.

At Kel’s Kapers, I do not provide meals, as I believe in valuing and respecting each family's home meals, traditions, and cultural food choices. Families are encouraged to bring meals from home that reflect their unique preferences and customs. To support this, I provide guidance through newsletters, offering healthy meal ideas and recipes to assist in making nutritious choices.

Meals should be healthy and appropriate for your child’s dietary needs. I encourage balanced choices that support children’s growth and development.

At Kel’s Kapers, my curriculum is play-based and child-led, fostering curiosity, independence, and a love for learning. I believe that children learn best through hands-on experiences, exploration, and meaningful interactions. My program is designed to support each child’s individual development while aligning with the Early Years Learning Framework, incorporating its principles, practices, and outcomes.

Each term, I tailor learning experiences to the children's developmental goals, interests, and strengths, ensuring a holistic approach to growth and learning. The curriculum includes:

  • Intentional Teaching & Play-Based Learning – A balance of spontaneous and guided experiences that scaffold children's learning.
  • Cultural & Community Connections – Incorporating multicultural celebrations and Quandamooka perspectives to foster respect and inclusivity.
  • Independence & Life Skills – Encouraging self-help skills such as toileting, dressing, and meal preparation.
  • Creative Expression – Engaging in art, craft, storytelling, and dramatic play to develop creativity and communication.
  • Outdoor & Physical Play – Providing opportunities for movement, coordination, and gross motor development.
  • Social & Emotional Wellbeing – Supporting children's self-regulation, problem-solving, and social interactions in a nurturing environment.

By working closely with families, I ensure that each child's learning journey is meaningful, engaging, and supportive of their unique growth.

A typical day includes a mix of structured and free-play activities, providing opportunities for children to explore, learn, and grow.

  • Free play & exploration – Child-led activities encouraging creativity and independence.
  • Morning group time – Stories, songs, and discussions to build language and social skills.
  • Community excursions – Visits to local parks, libraries, and shops to connect with the local community.
  • School & kindergarten drop-offs – A great opportunity for younger children to observe and engage with older peers, fostering confidence and an understanding of transitions.
  • Outdoor play & physical activities – Gross motor play in a safe and stimulating environment.
  • Creative play & hands-on learning – Art, craft, and sensory activities to encourage self-expression.
  • Quiet time/rest period – A calm space for children to rest or nap as needed.
  • Afternoon activities – Music, movement, dramatic play, and interactive learning experiences.

The routine is flexible and responsive to the needs of each child, ensuring a balance of engagement, rest, and discovery throughout the day.

Children under 15 months of age will sleep in a fixed wooden cot or a port-a-cot within the designated sleep nook, which is air-conditioned for comfort. Children over 15 months are offered stretcher beds. Sleep checks are conducted every 10 minutes and documented in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements to ensure each child's safety and well-being.
