Regular Handwashing and Hygiene Practices Procedure

  1. When to Wash Hands:
    • Upon arrival at the facility.
    • Before and after eating.
    • After using the toilet.
    • After coughing, sneezing, or blowing the nose.
    • Before and after handling food.
    • After outdoor play and messy activities.
    • After handling animals or pets.
    • Before and after administering first aid.


  1. How to Wash Hands:
    • Use warm running water and liquid soap.
    • Rub hands together, ensuring all areas (backs of hands, between fingers, under nails) are cleaned for at least 20 seconds.
    • Rinse thoroughly and dry hands using a clean towel or paper towel.
    • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable.


  1. Hygiene Practices for Children:
    • Teach children proper handwashing techniques.
    • Supervise young children during handwashing.
    • Provide visual prompts (posters) in wash areas.
    • Encourage good hygiene habits, including covering mouths when coughing or sneezing.


  1. Maintaining a Hygienic Environment:
    • Regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces.
    • Ensure tissues, soap, and paper towels are always available.
    • Dispose of waste properly in covered bins.
    • Wash and sanitize toys, learning materials, and play equipment frequently.
